Hurricane

Is there any word on how our Florida etc members are faring with that Hurricane we have been hearing about. Hope all is well with them.

My mother-in-law lives about 20 miles south of Daytona and about 15 miles inland, she said it was just rain and winds, one small branch down, never lost power....she said they've had thunderstorms that had done more damage....like Synchro said the eye turned right and kept moving off shore....they dodged a bullet.

A friend in Jacksonville never lost power. A bunch of trees down, but didn't seem too bad otherwise. He was looking forward to going outside to really assess the damage. He is pretty far from the beach, though.

We had a beautiful day on the Gulf Coast. The hotels are filled up - I heard a couple on the news say that they were going to lemonade from bad lemons while they were enjoying the beach.

We just got our power back on today. A lot of power lines went down. Lots of rain and flooding. The yard and roof top are cover with trash. But we cam through in good shape.

Just had power restored after 5 1/2 days. The storm could have been much worse but our area still took a pretty good pounding. A lot of flooding and storm surge has caused huge property losses.

I've lived in Florida for over 50 years. Been in numerous storms starting with Cleo and Dora. Was in Kendall and Homestead the day after Andrew hit.

Just because the hurricane did not level the place doesn't mean it was not a serious storm. Some folk's comments greatly underestimate the damage here.

Fortunately there was limited loss of life.

These storms that are less than those like Andrew are usually characterized by some people having "hurricane parties" while at the same time others are watching their homes destroyed. It's all about where you were when the ship hit the fan.
