Rusted 30-31 cowl panel repair or replace?

On a 30/31 coupe, can a person replace a rusted cowl panel or is the only option using a patch panel?
 
show us what you have , i am currently doing that project on my 31 ccpu the cowl was rusted all through to the subrail i cut out the bad parts and have just fit the section i needed from the whole patch panel , so far so good , i will still need to treat the subrail for rust and that seal it and prime before welding in the patch i will post pics as soon as i get them posted to a site i can than link to from this one .
 
I just wanted to know if a person could take the cowl panels out like on a 28/29 and replace them with new aftermaket or if the only choice was to patch them.

No, you can replace the entire panel. The only true issue is some reproduction panels do not really have the correct shape and need to be massaged at tad in an English Wheel to truly be authentic looking. If close is good enuf, then install as-is.

Thanks Brent. I am looking at a 30/31 rig that looks like it could use some new panels or patches. The major problem now is to convince the boss (wife) that I need another rig like this.
 
Now the one thing that you said that I probably should have commented on is that you cannot substitute a 28/29 cowl patch into a 30/31, --and visa-versa, ....but I'm sure you already knew that.

Fred, I'm sure some hobbyists have used the old "I'm gonna sell it after I'm done!" trump card to received granted permission. I'm not advocating however jus' sayin'!! :D

Brent, I think in order to keep our 46+ years of marriage going, I need to come clean as to the motives. Maybe one good sellng point is that it will keep me out of her hair for a year or so.

Yes thanks for the advise. I do know the 28/29 are different in that I replace mine on my 29 huckster with some used parts.
 
you can buy lower patch panels for the 30/31 cowl.

They come straight and countoured

I wanted to ask you guys who sells the best patch panels for bottom of doors and cowls?

and if you guys go with countoured or straight patch panels that bend yourself?
