Hydrostatic Gauge Fluid Colour

RE: the original liquid, tetra-bromo-ethane was tinted with 'Durant" scarlet dye

If you want to become a supplier or vendor of tetra-bromo-ethane,
looks like .5 Liter is only $221 at:

Color is light yellow.

I do not know what dye is used in the Tetra-bromo-ethane liquid nowdays which will not last, but where would you obtain the Durant scarlet dye which was apparently used in the original fluid to use in the Tetra-bromide-ethane.

I couldn't find much on Durant dye, but I did find a link to Scarlet Red as a color-fast dye on a Packard website.

The problem is that there are many different chemical structures for Scarlet Red, so which one was tested and which would be best are big questions. Most should be at least partially soluble in the tetrabromoacetylene, however.

I have a colleague who works with azo-dyes, so I will see what she thinks.

I will be very interested to see what your colleague says.
