Cracked steering

I have a nice looking steering wheel the chrome is not pitted but the steering wheel is cracked in 3 places with a gap of 3/32, how can repair the cracks?

I used the PC7 epoxy on mine too. Apply it sparingly, the more you put on, the more you'll grind off. When sanding, be careful not to grind or sand off the grips under the rim or other details.

I did a lot of initial work with sanding discs and an air grinder, then wet sanding with a coarse grit, moved to a 220 and 320. Then prime and see how it looks. Minor divots I filled with a dab of PC7. For the final work I used spot putty for minor glitches.

I used a SEM high build primer for the final work, wet sanded that with scotch brite lightly and shot the steering wheel with Duplicolor touch up paint.

bobss396, thanks for the info, where did you buy PC7 Epoxy I will let you know how I am doing. thanks john

Ace Hardware had it. Easy stuff to work with. Just make sure to bevel all the cracks, clean everything with lacquer thinner and you should be good to go.

a dremel works good for v ing out the cracks and rough sanding and shaping I used jb weld and masking tape as stated for shape and ease of sanding just make sure its clean

I used a little JB weld after the initial sanding. Good tip on the masking tape.

Mine was unbelievably cracked, all over but the results are great. I saw refurbished ones for over $400, I may have $30 into mine with a few things I bought.

Used PC-7 & body filler about 8-10 yrs ago on mine. So for no cracks reappearing.

Reassuring, mine was so bad that the cracks had cracks. Read elsewhere that sunlight is bad for the PC7. My car is garaged but may get one of those sun shields when I park it outside.

bondo will tend to crack epoxy will adhere to plastic and metal better bondo is good for finishing it is not strong but can hide a lot of sins as many have found out
