I have a chance to get a replacement transmission that came from a model A pickup. I want to use it in my 28 tudor. Question is are they identical?

Thanks Guys for the reply's. I was 99% sure. Just wanted to be 100% sure before I start taking things apart. And no it's not multiple disc.
Thanks again

Not exactly an easy question to answer properly if you include clutches and shift towers. If you are talking about just the case and the gears in the case then yes that can be interchanged. If you are including the bell housing, clutch, and tower then there can be differences. An example that jumps out it the parking brake lever mounting.

All pickups had the 3 speed ****** until 1931 when a 4 speed could be had on special order to provide a PTO.

Model A Ford Garage has some insight on the 4 speed

Excluding 1928 VERY early E Brake to left (single brake system), the 1928 transmission top can be one of two types. Both have the E-brake lever "in front" of the transmission shifter lever, and both transmission tops are identical to include a lateral shaft the brake handle pivots on.

Difference between these two are only in the handle, the earlier handle being "pistol gripped" (without a push button) and the later handle having a top mounted thumb button.

The good news is that either of these transmission tops will fit ANY transmission case.
You could swap the top with your old one simply to have the correct handle - or you could swap the handles.

Transmission tops post October 1929 have the E-brake lever off to the right side of the transmission shifter lever - and the transmission top has no lateral shaft. It will fit the earlier transmission case too. But the E-brake handle is decidedly different.

Joe K - Who in March 1929 is a "push button front" sort of guy.
