Car Cover Question

I have an opportunity to purchase a 30 Sedan that has been in storage for the past 45 years. The car is totally original and my plan is to get her running and not restore the car. I will drive her as a survivor for the next couple of years and then I plan on passing the car to my Son in Law and we then will do a frame off restoration "At least that is the current plan" But the only problem I have is storage, my garage is only a two car and and I need half the garage for my workshop, I purchased a enclosed car trailer for my Roadster but do not have any space for another enclosed car trailer so I need a weather proof car cover, because this car will be parked on my driveway and will actually drive her daily. Now you have the background information who has a quality car cover that they can recommend?

Hi Chuck,

I have three Cover Craft car covers and am very satisfied with fit and finish for each of them.

Keep in mind that no cover is waterproof - They only offer UV protection.

It's also a good idea to park them in shade as sun exposure to a wet cover can lift the paint.

yea its one of the few things that you get what you pay for... since you dont care about the paint a car over will work good outside. Like the other post keeping it in the shade is the best.

Do you have the option to build a lean-to off the side of your garage? Or carport?

Unfortunately can not build a lean-t o because of the zoning codes in my neighborhood. I really do need a water proof cover though so will check out the suggestions, that is very appreciated.

A car cover that does not breathe will lead to rust on the car. Also if the car is kept outdoors there will be rust on the undercarriage coming up from the ground or the driveway,, My suggestion is to park the car on a waterproof tarp to protect the undercarriage of the car and to cover the car with a cover that will breathe.

rent a garage in the neighborhood from a widow.

the car cover wont protect the car properly, and you and your son in law may find it best to keep the car a survivor, then to restore it, down the road......

I totally agree with Ronn! Wayne

That used to be a ready solution long ago but nowadays, every piece of worthless junk is a "collectible". The garages are filled with rusted out hulks hauled from woods n' fields now being cured and nurtured into valuable "barn finds". Then too, it's probably another rare AMC Pacer type project car forgotten there by the old lady's druggie nephew. .

Neighbor across the street just had a quite substantial portable garage type shelter delivered and installed. Metal tubular frame is heavy duty. That quonset hut shaped structure holds two Model A Ford size cars end to end. He paid under $1,000 complete.

I don't know if your zoning permits but I have a house style Shelter Logic portable garage I built a pressure treated wood deck on the ground in the back yard and fastened the Shelter Logic to it, The only ting I would add is a tarp under the deck to stop the moisture from the ground. I've had mine up for 15 years.

I have two of those sloping walls 12 x 20 Roundtop shelters, but would rather pay a little more and buy a Menards metal roof shelter. You loose too much storage with the sloping walls, and the metal will last much longer.
