Custom Console ideas?

I picked this up at Pep Boys some years ago and it has served me well. It just sits on the bench seat securely as it has a curved bottom that follows the curve of the seat. The arm rest is perfect height to increase comfort of riding and driving. And, the arm rest is a door that lifts up to open and store things that might normally go in a glove box. It also has two cup holders and a pocket in front of them for other things.

Ive got one of those units that fit around the gear shift on the floor.
But no good with a car with column shift.

Seems strange you'd keep 80yrs old wiring and drop some endorsement for a walmart plastic thing, not saying it wont work.
