1942-48 Ford Flathead Water Temp Question

I would like to install water temp probes in my stock 59 Flattie. Can I use standard Ford 289 or 302 CI. Are they all the same size? Car will be 12v upgraded. Thanks

What gauge or gauges are you planning on using? The sending units need to match the gauge. If there is a step down resistor in the wiring before the gauge, you need that too.

I mention the step down resistor since, I think, Ford used them for some gauges during the 60s.

The 289-302 senders will not work with any 59 series generation of dash gauges. Better off replacing with stock generation units.

I dont have anything yet, its just a rebuilt engine in a 34 5W. I have the stock dash in the car and gage set will be under dash. Just wondering what to use or where to start?

if your buy a gauge set up it will come with either the sending unit (electric) or bulb (mechanical). if you buying old electric gauges you'll need to hunt down the correct sender.
