What is the correct finish, plain, gloss black, flat black, other, for a 1930 under dash gas shutoff valve? The new one I just received from Bratton's is plain brass.
What is the best primer for brass?

Thanks.

"Restoration Guidelines & Judging Standards" page 1-9, 2011 revisions:

"There were five gasoline shut-off valves used. Except for the Town Car valve, which was painted black, the valves were either completely painted the body color or left unfinished. If the valve was left unfinished, the handle was cadmium plated. The nut was unfinished until mid 1930, copper plated from mid 1930 until mid 1931, and zinc plated thereafter. The lock washer was plain until mid 1930 and painted black thereafter. The large rubber grommet used with the indented firewall in 1931 was painted body color."

There is a wealth of information in the "RG & JS". The book is a good investment for anyone who is trying to accurately restore their vehicle, even if it will never be judged. The book is available from MARC and MAFCA, as well as most of the Model A parts suppliers.
