Vintage Spark Plug Repair

While setting the gap on the plugs that came in my '30 AA truck the ground electrode on one of them came off. It didn't break but came unattached where it's spot welded on the base. The plugs are Wizard Standard 65's. They're working fine and I don't care to just throw it away. Has anybody spot welded or reattached this piece with success or had it done somewhere?

I would only trust a TIG weld to re-weld it back on.
Remember if it comes loose while running it will do damage to your engine unless your are real lucky.

Is your western auto plugs take apart like Champion 3X? If so you could use 3X bases?
Snyders sell 3X bases $15.75 each.

Just install an electronic ignition with a super hot coil. Then the spark will be able to jump from center electrode to the base! (Said with tongue in cheek).

Bad idea

'40,
Had a STOCK Datsun-510, drove it a WEEK, with the ground electrodes GROUND OFF!

As a prank many moons ago I pulled the coil wire off a coworkers old pickup and set it on the fender under the hood. After work he climbed into the truck, fired it up and drove off. Was scratching my head on how he knew I had pulled the coil wire off earlier and knew to put it back on before the end of the day. The next morning at work when I asked him how he knew I did it he went "huh?" Opened up his hood and the coil wire was still sitting on the fender. That was a HOT coil.

What kind of pickup was this? It would have to have had an extremely short coil wire for the spark to jump to the distributor cap instead to ground somewhere like the block or head!

plugs are cheap
lots of them on ebay
if that little electrode fell off while driving and got stuck in the ring grove,it would really mess up your engine
the original 3X model A electrodes were not welded on
they fit in a hole in the rim and a punch was used to pin them in the shell
ive seen plugs with another electrode fit into the rim

Buy the repro 3X plugs at Napa. Your car will probably even run better.
