1957-60 YBlock distributor gear tooth count

Do you know how many teeth are on the yblock distributor gear? What is the tooth count? Does it vary on different motors?

From my understanding early ones are 14 tooth and later are 13.

Any insight would be great!

Thanks,

There's a '57 y-block distributor on the table next to me, it has 14 teeth on the driven gear.
IIRC the '54 version y-block dist gears may have a different tooth count, along with a different style drive shaft for the oil pump. I believe that '55 to '64 y-blocks have the same dist gear tooth count.

If you're trying to ID an unknown distributor post a couple photos of it, and any part numbers on it.

FYI: the '54, '55, '56 distributors are/were year specific and not interchangeable without modification.
Starting in '57 Ford upgraded the distributors and changed them slightly again in '59.
Mixing different year engines and distributors can be 'no problem' or a small nightmare, depending on the years involved.

I always thought they had 13 teeth in 1954, and all after that were 14 teeth. I believe '54 Ford and Mercury also had a slotted oil pump drive and after that were all were a hex drive.

x's 3. The 57 and up distributor for Yblocks are inter-changable but might have different advance curves for any certain application. Not to say they are identical, just inter-changable.

1954 13 tooth distributor drive gear, with flat/slot oil pump drive.

Thank you Dmsfrr. I never actually saw the slotted drive shaft. Now I know what they look like.
