I am beginning to disassemble the cab on the 30 AA. The cab had been painted in the past with what looks like Cool Seal. Bad shape. However, I pulled the dash panel and found what looks like original paint. What is it? Also, on the backside of the dash panel is a gloss black that still shines like new.

Of course, it is hard to use the chips in the Paint and Finish Guide with the chips on a white background. Blue Rock Green looked the closest.

Most pickups and AA trucks had their dash panels, window trim, door garnish, rear window frame and some other items painted gloss black at the Ford factory in Michigan and delivered to the assembly plants around the country and Canada. Most assembly plants installed the black items on the cab and bed after they were painted with the body color paint, usually Rock Moss Green and not rubbed out. I suspect a few assembly plants may have painted some of the black items along with the cab, body color, but not many. That may explain why the inside of the dash is gloss black and the outside is probably Rock Moss Green.

I think Ford mixed up the color names, because that looks more blue, and my GUN METAL BLUE looks more green. I'll try the picture again to see if it will enlarge. This is original factory paint on my 1928 firewall. I used WD-40 and diesel to clean the dirt and oil from above the seam.
