ar

AR was a designation given by Ford to parts that were obsoleted on early 1928 Model A's. Mostly these obsoleted parts related to the early left hand emergency brake system that had to be phased out due to threatened legislation from certain states. In general AR has been used in the vernacular to identify the car as having early 1928 features.

AR can actually be for any year, but is generally known as just stated above.

"A" means it was the first design of that part, and "R" means later designs of the same part can't replace the original design, so the first design must be kept in stock for REPAIRS. The early 28 wheels are a good example where the later ones won't bolt up correctly.

Due to the above, there is a move on to re-educate people and have the cars referred to as E28 cars instead of AR cars.

As Toms stated there can be BR CR and so on as the part are no longer used in new cars as well.

This is the first I have heard about the threatened legal action. Pretty interesting! I have an E28 with the emergency brake on the left side.
