Ignition timingg or curve.

Keeps Me Out of Bars

richard man you have been busy trev nz

Trev, you don't know the half of it! Also on the menu recently were/are:

1. Chart the accuracy of my speedometer with the help of the local police (Thank god for small towns!)
2. Install a new tach (SpeedHut - a real dandy)
3. Check fuel pressure of the mechanical pump
4. Rebuild mechanical fuel pump
5. Check pressure and volume of electric fuel pump
6. Fabricate a blockoff plate for mechanical pump
7. Install new MSD coil
There's more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Guys, Thanks for the info. I guess my gut freeling was right, just got to adjust the advance curve on my cut down Chev. points distributor, ran good with Chevy advance specs. Can't wait to see what it will do recurved. Now how about by 59A? I would like to keep the distributor down front where it belongs. How do we get modern 12 volt ignition level and keep a normal vacuum advance. All my old vacuum brake distributors always seemed to take a lot of adjusting. I don't see any aftermarket (Marllory, MSD, etc.) distributors that are anything other than full centrifugal. I don't want to go back to that. Has anyone been able to cut off a modern? 50's and up Chev. or other distributor and adapt it down on the front of a 59A block vacuum advance and all? Maybe even an HEI?

During the course of rebuilding my motor I considered undertaking such a conversion. However, the end result would have been a distributor that was too long to clear the fan set up.

Believe it or not the 11A in proper working order works very well on the 59A or as a frond drive distributor. However, the machinical advance can be modified by welding up the slot and filing it for the advance you want. The vacuum plunger must be free and a new leather. This works, I have several running on 276, 8.5cr and an L-100 cam = 19mpg
