4 cylinder b motor value 1933 year

I'm trying to value a good running b motor with all components and transmission. I have posted a picture under 4 cylinder b motor. A value range would be helpful.

Some history, receipts, specs, etc will help determine value. From what you have described the motor could be worth $5 to $2500. More info is needed. Is it rebuilt? sleeved to standard? .100 over? We need a lot more info

Like Tiny said.

Send it to an engine rebuilder and pay him to inspect it and give a report then you can get top dollar for what you have. Right now all I "see" is a possible good block and transmission case.

My engine was a good running engine until on the way to a friends house the valve snapped off and fell into the cylinder.

Up to the moment it broke what was the value of the "...motor with all components and transmission."?

Your Picture. . .

If that is a picture of your engine in post #5 it looks like it is in an early '32 engine compartment (from the starter switch) and has a '32 water pump. What makes you say it is a '33 engine? Minor concern about the color of the block, a meticulous restorer or rebuilder would have used the correct color (unless it is just a poor reproduction of the color). The good news is that looks like it is running and a person could drive the vehicle and run a compression test. But the most important thing is what is the history, recently rebuilt and by whom?

B motors were thin in the valve area. (thinner than A motors)
Some builders insist on using hardened valve seats on everything they touch.
If such seats have been installed on this motor that would be a deal breaker for me since it is only a matter of time before they fall out; also the installation process will often trigger hairline cracks around the valves.

I'd want to pressure test the cooling system as well as all the info requested above; also do a compression test

Hey Don,
You have to be careful about taking to 'someone' to have him evaluate it also ! Like the one that I've put thousands into right now. He said that he pressure tested it. Got it home and upon final assembly...it has many cracks :(. Some warn about B engines and cracks. I'm warning about nefarious people. However, without opening it up and without a thorough checkup....crap shoot otherwise.

As others have chimed in and stated more info is needed. What have you done with the motor, transmission what's the last overhauls builder info if known is there any problems with the driveline. Many more questions than available answers at this time.

Until you know more the value is low end. Once you find out more positive reliable information the price increases. Without proof of recent rebuilt it is no where near $2500. Wayne

Both of my Model A's have Model B motors. I went through 4 Model B motors to find two motors with counterbalanced crankshafts, motors without cracks, motors that had some shims left in the mains and that had standard size cylinder bores.

The most I have paid for a complete Model B motor is $300. The last Model B motor I bought cost me $125.

I always assume that any motor I buy will require professional rebuilding, even if I have a chance to drive it.

A Model B transmission is not a direct drop-in in a Model A, so a Model B transmission has no significant value in my opinion.

I was thinking $300-500 since it has all the components. Will try to get more history if possible. The engine is out of a 32 but has a id number dating it to mid 1933. The 32 is an original v8 car and I have a 32 v8 so I'm making the switch. There is a risk in buying a used engine so I think the components value has to be considered. Thanks for the responses.

What mods are required to fit the b trans to a model a?

Hey Don,
I've indicated in two separate PMs to you , my interest in purchasing your B engine. Do not need transmission.
Since I've rec'd no response, and am not good with computers, I wonder if you've rec'd any Fordbarn PM contacts from me  Thanks :)
