Different rear drums

my mostly 36 coupe

So, I pulled the rear drums off to get at the leaky wheel cylinder(s) and found a few differences. I like the one on the left better. Is this a later design or from another model vehicle?

Wow, That is very unusual. I know that early 36 Fords had Spider Type Front and Rear Brake Drums, and the later models were solids?

Here is another Wide Five early Ford V8 Brake Drum. I am not sure what your it is off, but the inside strengthening ribs are different from the the ones in the previous picture.

I pulled these off my 36 but since it had been converted to juice brakes, I'm not sure what I've got here.. Mercman, thanks for the photo of yet another variation ; straight radial ribs.
Interesting..

The brake drum on the left, with turbine looking strengthening ribs, is a '36 drum. The drum on right, would be a '37-'39 drum.

'36 to '39 wide 5 REAR drums are all interchangeable.

Are all 36-39 Ford Wide Five Brake Drums interchangeable? This article was written by our News Letter Editor.
The mystery continues?

NO....that statement in my previous post only applies to REAR wide five drums, '36 to '39.

The '36 FRONT wide five drum stands alone because of the different snout length, but '37 to '39 FRONT wide five are interchangeable.

'36 drums have those turbine shaped strengthening ribs, I believe on both FRONT and REAR, and they could also have straight strenthening ribs as shown in the picture posted of the rusty looking FRONT drum. The '37 to '39 drums, that I have, do not have any strengthening ribs, as pictured above on the right side REAR drum.

These straight ribbed, front and rear drums, were also used in '36
