Can anyone tell me how the rumble trim panels were originally secured. I am attaching a photo of what is in the rumble area at present, apart from the seats which I have. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I intend to make my own panels but would like to fit them as they were fitted originally. Any photos would be a help. Thanks in advance.

Mine is Canadian so it uses Robertson head screws. But I think all cars would have nickle plated, oval head sheet metal screws. Are there any holes already drilled in the area where the panels will go ?

I'll do my best..

1. Below and behind the "rain gutters", left and right,...is a thin piece of sheet metal
that the card stock gets wedged up into..

2. The 2 vertical quarter panel supports, on each side, has a hole. I can see both in your second photo. That is were a piece of wood about 1/4" X 1 1/4" by the length
of the rumble area screws too. I believe wood screws with cup washers screw too.

That should get you started..

Yes, when my dad rebuilt our old farm house in upstate NY, all of us kids had to tear off lots of old lath and plaster. I've only worked on the panels of one rumble seat, and that was about 10 years ago. It is coming back though and you are right about it being thin.

Yes, I just made up this piece. It's 3/16 - 1/4 thick about 2" wide and 30" long. I can get the right measurements the next time I'm at the garage. You'll see a hole in the front vertical support and one in the hinge bracket that holds this piece. There is also a metal support strip that goes in behind the alignment wedge at the top. It is mounted with the gutter screws. This holds the top of the trim panel.

These metal strips helped hold the cardboard . They fastened to the T strips .
