What the heck was holding my engine?

I found this when I pulled the engine today to replace it with a new one from Albequerque with new crank, inserted rods, cam, pistons. I guess one bolt was keeping the engine from falling to the ground or on my arm. All the breaks in were OLD breaks!! I included the multi-disc clutch in the picture for those who have never seen one.

I have seen and welded cracks in rear motor mounts, but I've never seen any that bad.

Did you have clutch chatter? Or, maybe clutch chatter caused that! :)

Can a multiplate even have clutch chatter?

Guessing you have the correct u-joint coupler for that transmission, the one with the hook on the second cross-member?

Yup. Called Bert's and the motor mounts are on the way. No clutch chatter.

My multi-disc clutch and transmission really shifts good, double clutching not even really necessary. All I had to do to shift was put my foot in the clutch, wait two seconds and no grinding. I used the 680 cylinder oil which made a big difference from the the 460 viscosity.

answer to your original question:

just one side bolt and the front mount.

tough little cars, these.

glad you found this before that last side bolt hole broke off.
that could have been ugly.

Hi. I am about to fit the same type of engine mounts to my Roadster. Would you recommend going back to the cast mounts which may be stronger.
