oil and or gas additives

anyone using additives,my pickup sticks a valve sitting all winter, it frees up after drive awhile.

I had the same problem with my 30 Tudor when I first got it last spring. I would remove the spark plug and shoot penetrating oil towards the valves and run the car for 10 minutes a day. After a week of doing this, the stuck valve let go. When doing so, it let out a backfire of .308 size report. I shortly had a visit from the local police asking why I was discharging weapons on my property. They had trouble understanding the concept of backfiring, let alone what a carburator was or how one works.

For additives, marvil mystery oil (MMO) is a great addative to both the gas and oil. It does tend to get a bit smoky sometimes though. Beware of asking about/using this mysterious oil though; Many swear by it, and just as many swear at those who use it.

When the gas goes bad in your tank it can and will often cause sticking valves. Easy solution - drain the gas and use it in your modern car and snow blower. Additives like Marvel Mystery Oil are a joke, they can't prove their claims and never will.

I do like the smell of Marvel Mystery Oil, the spearmint oil in it makes me use it to oil my air tools. All the stuff is in a MMO can - 10 weight oil, red dye, and spearmint oil. No Mystery LOL!

I use a little ATF or 2 stroke oil in the last tank of the year in old engines. 2 oz per gallon

Looking for the front bumper emblem that has "Ford, Made In Canada"

I have used Marvel Mystery Oil for a number of years as an additive in the gas. Works well.

Started up the Model A today after 3 months without running. The MMO seems to help the Gas stay "fresh".

I never had sluggish valves since using MMO for years.

And ............... I realize this perhaps may cause an excitement similar to another WWII Normandy Invasion ..... but .....

Last week I received a message for a list of helpful hints where it was mentioned that mint oil sprayed in a garage, closet, car, etc. will keep mice away and moths away because mice and moths hate the smell of mint oil.

Per reply no. 4 above ...... spearmint oil in MMO ? ..... and MMO in my gas tank ? ..... I never had moths in my Model A ............... and my D-Con in my enclosed garage remained untouched all winter ..........

Maybe just another never told before benefit for:

"The Model A MMO Campaign Controversy."

I think I'll go to grocery store before the Naval Artillery smoke starts covering the Normandy Beaches.

There's a program here in East Central Iowa that's called "The Car Geek Hour." It's on every Saturday at 10:00 AM CST on local station WMT in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

You can call in at 1-319-365-0600 or 1-800-332-5401.

The hosts' name is Jay Cassill. He owns one of the largest previously owned car dealerships in East Central Iowa.

He strongly advocates adding 1 quart of transmission oil to his oil changes.

Call in and ask for Jay this Saturday and ask him why.. He will explain the benefits.

Tell him Larry told you to call.. ;)

MMO consists of a naphthalenic rather than a paraffinic base. There is also a halogenated component. The combination of those two permits it to penetrate gummed up and oxygen link polymerized parafinic oil deposits that stick valves, lifters, and rings. The second part of it all is a ester oil content. (the 'spearmint oil' you smell) Esters are superior lubes that are categorized as synthetics in the oil industry. That's why it works- solvent power plus synthetic lube. NO JOKE.

Real bad when rings get sticky in piston grooves because as the piston moves to the top, (where the cylinder is worn and a larger diameter), the rings do not expand quick enough and one gets blow-by, loss of compression, loss of HP, and oil is pumped into the combustion chamber ......

When one sees cars expelling lots of exhaust blue smoke this usually means gummy and sticky rings and ring grooves loaded with gummy carbon ...... the very poorest of the poor in our rural area used to have poor rural mechanics clean old rings and ring grooves and reinstall same every so often to increase compression.

I wonder if some MMO down the plug holes would also have worked.

im runnin some MMO thru my modern vehicles fuel tank, we shall see if it helps anything - has had an intermittent hesitation upon startup sometimes.

i know you can dump it in the crankcase, are you supposed to drive with it in there? seafoam you can add but not supposed to drive, just idle and lightly rev the engine in park/neutral then drain the oil.

Just one "Humorous" way to look at "Model A Preventative Recommendations and Products."

1. If one would go to the MMO source, i.e., the MMO Official Site, then click on "Ask the Mechanics", and click on "The Forum", one can read .......... not what people "think" about MMO ......... but what others claimed to have "experienced" after using MMO ........ then as usual, some may; however, it is most understandable many will not even want to believe these experiences ...... we are only human.

2. One "Preventative" maintenance subject below, many people will believe, but will refuse to go to the trouble to comply with same:

A. Everyone in the field of medicine knows by now, through statistics, that if we walk a mile or two about 4 days a week, this mild exercise will strengthen muscles to support our weight as opposed to allowing our bone "joints" to wear out while supporting our weight that we gain by "not" exercising.

B. Furthermore, this mild exercise is known to help maintain cleaner flowing arteries with less plaque build up ....... plus a much stronger heart muscle that can stay strong as we age.

C. What do we do then? Through human habits that we will never admit, rather than walk, we sit on our couches with a can of beer, a bag of potato chips ..... eating good tasting greasy fried chicken, and sugary treats, and gain weight ...... plus, refuse to use MMO.

3. Our World of Capitalism coupled with our World of Medicine is very similar as far as "Preventative" recommendations from our "Automobile Manufacturers" and our "Doctors":

A. Rather than launch a Preventative Medicine Campaign for "strongly" recommending exercise, and educating patients in our schools, universities, and workshops what helps to "maintain" our health, our doctors and pharmaceutical companies are waiting for us to come in for a hip replacement or a heart transplant so they can call their local car dealership to order a new BMW to drive out to their newly purchased lodge next to a mountain ski resort.

B. Now auto manufacturers are just a little different ..... they don't recommend MMO either ....... they allow us to buy expensive vehicle extended warranties for up front cash, and hire professional engineers to compute planned obsolescence so our cars fall apart one week after the warranty expires ........ then ...... when we go to buy a new car, all the stock holders call the BMW salesman to drive out to their newly purchased lodge next to a mountain ski resort.

C. Like doctors not telling us how to live long, the last thing stock holders and car manufacturers want to add to their car manuals is recommending MMO. LOL

I find it fascinating that MMO contains Naptha Based Product.
Just to let you know...
Naptha was the standard for watch and clock cleaning for over 100 years!
Naptha is a watch and clock dissolves the gunk without any negative effects to the metals that the new cleaners have.

Unbelievable to many, but Geographical location of mechanics can stir different strong mechanical opinions on top cylinder lubricants.

When a vintage mechanic lived near a very good fishing area, he either had a 2 cycle outboard motor and boat ....... or repaired vintage 2 cycle outboard motors.

When he dismantled vintage 2 cycle outboard motors with their vintage 1:16 30 WT, oil to gas ratio, he noticed "far" less wear on cylinders and hardly any ridge at tops of cylinders when compared to 4 cycle engines which had "no" oil in the fuel.

Most observant vintage mechanics quickly learned about advantages of adding top cylinder lubricants.

Bless his heart, but my professional mechanic Uncle, (born 1905), until age 80, added MMO to the gas tanks of the last (4) Chrysler Imperials that he owned in my lifetime.

Moral of the story: If you did not live near lots of fish back then, how could a mechanic tell the difference. LOL

I run a little lead additive that my dad and grandfather ran for years. A little story on MMO, I used to work in an automotive machine shop and did several LPG conversions on gasoline powered trucks used in a local steel mill. These trucks ran 24/7, 90% of the time at idle. The first one or two had issues with dirty/sticking intake valves which caused poor power. The cure was to add MMO oilers to the engine compartment. Engine vacuum pulled a metered amount of MMO into the intake that cleaned the valves and stopped the valve sticking issue for good. I run it in my cars and power equipment just prior to winter storage, along with Stabil.

I wouldn't drive it far or hard or do the crank case trick in the hot summer, but I gather you can drive it with MMO in the oil, at least for a little while. MMO is a solvent and it will break down the oil. The nice part is it will break down the sludge. Then get the stuff out of there! I believe ATF is better because it's a lubricant and won't harm the oil. I know nothing about chemistry. This is all supposition from what I've gathered over the years and I may be wrong.
