6.00x16. appears to have been recapped. What's the stroy on these? Did they come on cars? It's the only one I've seen. I always assumed they came with Firestones since Henry and Harvey were buddys

Henry entered into a deal with Harvey Firestone in 1936 to allow him to produce tires. Harvey lent Ford his chief engineer to help Ford design and build a Ford tire factory in Dearborn. Here is a brief history of Ford tire production and an original ad for Ford tires.

That sounds like a rare tire to own. I think it would look nice in someone's collection on one of those Ford logo tire stands like the picture shown in Don's post

Thanks Don, and yeah JM, I was thinking about cleaning it up good and bringing it in the house. Maybe mount it on a wide 5 and find a good hubcap. Shouldn't be too hard to make one of those stands.

Actually, those original sheet metal tire stands with the Ford logo are being reproduced and would make a nice display combined with your tire. If you PM Don, I think he would fill you in on where you can get one.

What's a nice guy like you doin' in a place like this?.... Just kiddin. WB is the mainstay and why we keep on keepin on over at FTE. Well, he and tinman. If Truckdog, James Wagner, Willowbilly and I had to arm wrestle over a true vintage tire find, there would be a lot of physical therapy on Monday morning. Those of you that get it know what I'm talkin about.

How many Ford tires were made with rubber from Ford's own rubber plantation? I've read that that operation was less than successful.

Well, probably not this one but a full set of NOS 17s maybe, lol. It would be 15 seconds of mayhem.

And I plum forgot I went out to see if the mud was dried up enough to get that 62 Ranchero in for some floor pans so I can sell it to buy more old stuff.

Ford GPWs had script non-directional tires until sometime in 1942. The tire business was then supposedly sent to our red "friends " as part of the Lend- Lease program.
