Backfire on deceleration

Is that the location on RH drive cars as well?

YES. The shaft for the valve comes up through a hole in the steering column support bracket. I think it makes much more sense to have it in front of the driver rather than the passenger.

I had a backfire problem on deceleration. Backfire through the muffler. Turned out to be an exhaust valve on number three cylinder that was sticking. I use MMO in the gas and crankcase. I solved the problem by removing the spark plug and squirting MMO in the cylinder above the valves. Replace the spark plug, turn the engine over so that some of the oil is sucked into the exhaust valve. Let the engine set over night. Took three treatments and now no back fire. Might want to check for an exhaust valve that is sticking from time to time.

This is just another possible reason for the backfire.

It's not in front of the "passenger"

It's in front of the "co-pilot"
