Desirabilty of canopy top

I see there is a large demand for the Protect-O-Top that covers the bed but is there much of a demand for the camper shell? I'm going to be selling my fathers 65 Ranchero and it has the canopy top. I'm wondering if I should remove it and sell it separately or leave in on the truck.

Better off to offer together and you're done, rather than possibly have the top sit around later......IMO

Then again, someone might REALLY want to buy the topper,, test your market.

Some things to concider, as to the shells value. ;)

Is it painted the same color as the Ranchero ?
Is it a neutral color that would go with other vehicles ?
Is it a good name brand shell ?
Is it in good condition ?

Negotiate with each prospective looker/buyer, to find
out what they will offer, with or without the shell. ;)

The canopy is white. It's a Protect-O-Top brand and they are out of business. They were the only company that made them specifically for the 1960 thru 1965 Ranchero. It's in OK condition. The Gel coat is showing some pitting from age. I know canopies on modern trucks are of minimal value. You get nothing for it on a trade in and they remove them and sell them in bulk to used canopy dealers. Since this one is so vehicle specific and rare I was hoping to maximize the income from it's sale.

For someone like me buying it with the vehicle would decrease the value of the vehicle as I would likely have to pay to have it disposed of. Just my opinion as I really dislike toppers. Rod

There can be pluses & minuses to having a top on an open vehicle. Since they're not made anymore & hard to come by a potential buyer might be very pleased to have one, or not, it all depends on the buyer.
If you get a solid offer on the truck and they don't want the top you can make the decision at that time and sell it separately.

My story:
I had a '71 F100 that I had a canopy special built for it. This was back in the day when the young-uns could ride in the back. It was trimmed in color to match the truck, had a pass-thru window, etc. The inside height of the canopy was so that my youngest son could stand up and not hit his head on anything. It had a bench type seat across the front that was easily removable, but no seat belts.

Long story short, the pickup was passed down to my son who is now an adult. He only wanted the truck, not the canopy (which was off at the time anyway). After many attempts to sell or even give the canopy away, and after several years of "storing" it, I finally ended up paying to have it disposed of at the local transfer station.

Son still has the truck and has it looking like it came off the showroom floor, but still has no desire to put a canopy on it, despite the fact that Seattle/Tacoma is his home!
