macs antique auto

Get the free catalogues to search ... then punch up the part numbers on the respective site ..... Snyders new site sucks also....
They need to make the web sites like my parts jobbers for the shop....proffesionally layed out
No search needed

I do what Doug suggested, call them up. Bratton's will gladly tell you the quality of the part and who/where made it, if you ask - US or foreign, unlike Mac's. Jeff and Walt will help you out. There are probably other people at Bratton's that can answer your questions or find someone that can. Steve at Bert's will also give you information about a part you are considering, again, unlike MACs.

I trust that all the people throwing darts at Mac's have the integrity to refuse or return their magnificent catalogue, correct ? Wayne

whew...I thought it was just me that was having a bad experience with Bratton's search engine. I really...REALLY want to give them a try - but if I can't get to step 1 - actually finding the parts I want to buy, then getting to step 2 - sending them $ - is kinda hard, and won't be happening.

SD, get Bratton's Free catalog. It makes life easier, and you can peruse it while in the "Reading Room".

Bratton's catalog also gives bolt and thread sizes which is a big help when looking for a spacial fastener.

I find that ALL the on line catalogs except McMaster Carr are junk, and not worth looking at. The printed catalog is much superior, and they are usually free, and after calling on the phone and ordering something, the catalogs are sent a few times a year to update pricing and avialability. I have a filing cabinet full of them, and they are very handy.

I purchased 4 screws last week from MACS. they are the only ones that had them and they had charged me a ridiculous price of 8.95 for shipping, I asked them point black why can't you put it in an envelope for 1.00 and I was told NEVER will they do it...I responded by saying, Funny it seems to be popular with the MAJOR parts suppliers for Model A's!!! I rarely buy or recommend them to anyone!

I say buy from any vendor you want to buy from. I have bought from most of those mentioned and have gotten what I wanted and the results have been what I needed. But like mentioned above, the old phone works wonders when in need.

So we have had this discussion on the site before. Granted someone said it is good to know about the vendors. But I say to "each his own"- find your vendors and stick with them but know your facts before putting maybe your "opinions" on this site..

I also search the paper catalogs, write down all the parts numbers, then call and place my order.
I find this is very quick and easy.

I used to buy from Macs, but had enough.

I now enjoy Mikes and Snyders...........................!

Don't be sorry you have the same right as everyone else without being bullied, and you would have made a great police man;)

I have enjoyed this thread. Regarding the search feature on some websites mentioned above. I too have noticed this on Brattons and Snyders websites. On ours, it only searches the title (name) of the part, not the description. So, if you type in "door handle", you get anything with door handle in the name. Works pretty well I think. Please let me know your thoughts. You have to enter our website modelastore.com and enter the order online portion of the website. Let me know what you think. I tried the door handle and pitman am bolt searches mentioned above and they both work as intended.

We talked about this before, shipping has become a profit center for businesses. They can post a low price knowing they will make up the loss in shipping. We have read here all the time how most shop by price. If vendor A is a dollar cheaper then Vendor B most will buy from Vendor B. Vendor B charges more for shipping so he makes up the dollar plus more.

You will find this on any web site. Amazon does the same thing. One outfit will offer an item and charge for shipping while another will offer the same item at a higher price and not charge for shipping. This stuff is just the way companies do business.

I'm with Tom. Paper catalog, toll free call, immediate stock knowledge, arrives in a few days! I was trying to find an American range griddle, thru a local dealer today. Went thru the same confusion. Finally just called a couple of local dealers, and found what I wanted. Wasted almost an hour on line. Guess I m just old school!
