Agreed Alan
I did find FAA 7302 A decreed as a shift lever arm for a 51/52 vehicle RHD (right hand drive) in my Canadian Master Book.
These 3 character designations are quite the mystery.
By the way - I do wish to comment that the "Blue Bible" copulation parts book leave out quite a bit of information when compared to the Chassis and the Body parts books released and designated for the specific year of the car.
Oldmics
And hence my obsession with trying to obtain copies of the model-year issues of the P&A chassis and body parts catalogs along with the Master Parts Catalogs with their periodic updates, then crossing them with the Engineering cross-reference and Obsolete-Supersede-Interchange catalogs, searching for parts that were dropped or revised during production. Add to this researching numbers found in reprints of Assembly Manuals and it quickly turns into madness. It's an 'occupational hazard' as part of my work being VTCI's Tech Director and researching Original Factory Specification manuals, because I've been trying to compile engineering number info for identification of castings, stampings and other parts that used the two- or three-digit engineering prefixes.
My latest "rabbit hole" effort is tracking down changes in casting numbers for water pumps from '28-'70s, for instance, and knowing what the pre-'59 all-letter prefixes are helps to narrow things down for applications. For instance, just in looking at water pumps, I've run into:
EAA ('52-'53 223 I-6),
EAB ('52-'53 239 V-8),
EAF ('53-'56 tractor NAA, NAB, 600/700 134 ci I-4 and 800/900 172 ci I-4),
EAG ('54-'56 223 I-6),
EAM ('52-'56 HD truck 279/302/317 ci Y-8),
EAN ('54 239 Y-8),
EAT ('54 truck 239/256 Y-8),
EBP ('56 truck 223 I-6), EBV ('55 pickup 279/302/317),
ECG ('55-'56 272-292 Y-8)
ECZ ('56-'57 292-312 Y-8)
EDB ('57? 312 Y-8?)
EDC ('58 332/352 ci),
EDG ('58 Lincoln 430 ci),
EEQ ('48-'52 truck 337 ci)
One could infer in the above instances that the "E" prefix is for Engine with the remaining two letters related to the model and engine family/displacement or year of design, but first letters "F" or "G" = ? I know I've seen F-prefixed numbers for ignition parts like coils (FAR-, for instance), but I haven't compiled enough listings to start seeing a pattern.
This also touches on the two-character numbers used on parts like radiators, suspension pieces, and other chassis or body items. Most you have probably seen "AB-" stamped on parts for '52-'54 cars, or "AH-"
on '55-'56 cars or "AN-" on '55-'57 T-birds (need to verify those) - some of those prefixes show up in the engineering numbers used in Assembly Manuals or in the parts catalogs, for instance, which helps to narrow those down. Coming up with a list of those codes will probably be my next trip down the "rabbit hole."
Not a lot of people know that the "Blue Bible" compilations ('49-'59 and '60-64) were a snapshot of what was still in inventory when they were compiled/printed in 1964 ('49-'59) and 1969 ('60-'64).
