Does anyone have a diagram of the switch and top pump wiring or know what size wire Ford used from switch at dash to motor under rear seat. Thanks

Your best bet is to get an Electrical Installation manual. Gives routing, and wire codes (colors). Doesn't give wire sizes if the same as my 56 Bird.

The wire gauge originally used in a 6v car ('55) will be larger than used in a 12v car ('56+).
Half the voltage ~ double the current.

Made more confusing by the wire designation number being opposite... the physical diameter and current capacity of a 10 gauge wire is larger than a 12 gauge wire.

I'd be lying if I said I knew what size wire Ford originally used to power a '55 convertible top motor but I'll guess it was at least #10, #8 would be good too since the length is likely over 6ft.

I have to wire my 54 also which I have converted to a 12 volt system with a 12v pump out of a Cadillac. They all seem to use the same pump. My plan is to temporarily wire and test it. If the wire gets hot and the pump boggs down the wire is too small. If you have the original 6 volt wire that is plenty big for 12v assuming the insulation is still good.
