Torino rear brake question

I recently picked up an 8 inch rear out of a 68 Torino. Purchased it for the pumpkin which is a 3:25 traction lock. Don't think the pumpkin was stock as it had a bunch of "form a gasket" instead of a gasket when it was installed. When I removed the wheels I was really impressed with the size of the brake drums. Removed one drum and it measured approximately 2 3/4 wide. However, the brake shoes are only 1 3/4 inch wide leaving about 1 inch of unused brake drum. I can't believe this would be correct.

Anyone know what I have and if there is a set of shoes that I can use with these wide drums.

I will be placing the 3:25 pumpkin in a Maverick housing and if possible would like to use the Torino wide drums and backing plates.

Usually the drum surface is a 1/2" wider than the shoe width. Try to identify what year Torino the drums came from and buy shoes accordingly.

Thanks, guys.
Appreciate the info.
Found that Mac's has all the parts I need.

Check with your local Napa store . They can usually get the same parts , in a reasonable time frame , but no shipping costs . Mac 's isn't a bad place , but their shipping costs are awful , at best . I buy from them , but I am close enough that I can pick up the stuff myself . Just my 2 cents .....FF

Tell me about their shipping costs. I called about getting the nylon keeper to hold my horn ring in place on my 61 Galaxie. Part cost was $6.95, and shipping was $47.00.:eek::eek:

Deplorable... beyond usury in my book. Locally NAPA is the best parts house, but they stock almost nothing. I got my brake parts at Rock Auto, the shipping was fine. My gas tank and sender cost $20 total to ship, from 2 separate locations but a steal at that.

Yeah , I hear ya . My local Napa store has nothing in stock , but can usually get it in a day or two . Works pretty good for me with my '65 Falcon Sprint .:)
