Radius Rod Ball Question?

All, how can I tell the condition of the front radius rod ball on my '39 1/2 Ton? Sure it looks nice and round but when I place it into its enclosure it appears to be loose. I know on Model A's there is a rubber ball available that fits over a worn ball. Can anyone provide insight into this issue? How can I determine it's worthiness?

Here's a fellow who has original Ford rubber balls. Most vendors have them.

Your 39 also uses a rubber ball on the front radius rod ball.

To clarify...on V8's, the rubber ball is original equipment and necessary. On the Model A, it is an aftermarket piece to patch a worn out part.
