Light Switch Body

2 questions.

Are the repros any good or should I look for an original?

Is there something that holds the contact disk of the wiring hareness in the switch body?

Thanks

dmaxweb : yes, but on our original one it took a bit of working\rocking to get it out.

The bakelite disk slides into the upper half which connects to the steering column. The bottom half pushes up into it and holds it there.

the repro contact disks work ok. The repro switch bodies in general do not. Occasionally I hear of one that does, like MrTube's post above. Maybe they're getting better, but all the ones I have used were unreliable. If you want an original, you can find NOS 32's and replace the lower half with one for an A. You can ask Bert's in Colorado if they have an original, or you can ask Dan Bixby. Dan re- cad plates them and sells on ebay under the seller name phonconn.

Worked out beautiful for me. Perhaps using a new wiring harness and contacts with the new switch body helped ? They seemed to match up together well.

When I tried using the original switch body with the new harness and contacts it kept binding. I assume due to wear on the 3 contact points.

Can I buy just the new contact disk and connect my existing wiring harness to it?

I believe you can only buy it with a new wiring harness. However the disc has .250 quick disconnect lugs on it so you could transfer wires from one to the other I suppose.

Personally i'd recommend replacing the whole harness with new. The new harness has properly color coded cloth covered wires. It doesn't take terribly long to do. It includes the headlight wires, horn wires, and tail light wires. The tail light wires go to the brake switch and have a connection near the tail light.
