1913 Model T touring : What do I have??

RE the acetylene tank for the headlamps. While not a "from the the factory" item the acetylene tank, usually Prest-o-lite, was a common after market item in the gas light era and later. Some Ford dealers could install or you could. A number of non-Ford cars and trucks in the gas light era did come from the factory with them installed. A few trucks which still had gas lights into the early 20's used them. Today they are mounted on the running board or hid under the seat. If you google "mtfca; acetylene tank" you should get some idea where they will fit.

Apparently, one of those tanks for a motorcycle would run the headlamps for @10 hours, way more than what I would need, and it would be easy to hide.

Is that the kind of thing a judge would mark you down for if it were out of sight?

Incidentally Mark, I'm still working or uploading photos to either an album or as an embedded attachment to a post. I guess there's a security token I don't have so I dropped the administrator a note.

You would have to get a copy of the judging standards form the Model T Ford Club International to check. They are the only Model T club that does any real judging and only at their big meets. The Model T Ford Club of America does not do judging. If you were thinking about having it judged in one of the other antique car clubs you would have to check with them.

Somebody registered it as a 1913 because the engine number was built in October of 1913 but it's actually a 1914 car because the 1914 model year started in September of 1913. It has a 1914 body. I believe it's already been mentioned the car was built in January of 1914. It also has later parts on it and that acetylene tank is NOT correct for the car. A standing acetylene tank is no higher than the bottom of the door.

Actually a carbide tank was one of the few available factory options from 1909 - 1914. No doubt the dealers sold them too. Looking at invoices at the Benson Ford archives the two most frequent options are Weed tire chains and Prestolite tanks.
