Diecast Model A deterioration

I was cleaning out the closet yesterday and came across this diecast Sees Candy Model A roadster bank. It was in the box, on the shelf and rattled when I picked it up. The fenders & running boards had broken into pieces, as if the metal has deteriorated. I've never seen this happen to other diecast models. Of course, with the '32 grille & gas tank under the rumble seat, it kinda looks like a hi-boy now. I think I'll have to paint some flames on it and put it on display. ;)

Gary,
Imagine what our "modern" PLASTIC cars will look like, in a few years. Have you ever observed a BURNED one----------------?

Take a stroll in a junkyard and check the saturns and early 90's buicks, they had plastic door panels and fenders and are about as fragile as cut crystal...

anyways it looks like poorly made potmetal doing its thing and cheap plastic becoming brittle...might as well customize it at this point:cool:

True dat, Gary! But it is an Official Licensed Product of Ford Motor Company!
I've just never seen one self destruct like this one, and it was just sitting in a box on a shelf.

Vern, are you sure you're not running a chop shop??? :0
Save the parts for my friend ,Ted,
On top of a half wall, inside his front door, he has a large metal planter box, filled with sand. Has a sign, "TEDS' WRECKING YARD" & is full of broken model cars & parts & even 2 junk yard Dogs:cool::cool:

I think yours is defective. My See's roadster has survived my 8 year old son for a few years now without knocking the fenders off. It even takes jumps regularly and the occasional speed contest! :D Come to think about maybe yours is falling apart due to neglect. Remember Model A's like to be driven not locked away in boxes. :)

There are two Saturns in the parking lot where I work and I see nothing fragile? In fact, all of the plastic panels look like brand new while the hood and roof is faded bad from the sun. One is an early 90s and the other a 1997. The 97 was hit by a plow last winter and the panel held up fine.

To be honest, I've never seen Saturn panels show any signs of being fragile.

This reminds me of what plumbers must have said about PVC drain pipe when it first came out. "Cast iron and poured lead is the only way!". Now everyone wants it gone............
