Blow - by

Blow-by is a term that describes compression and combustion gases escaping into the crankcase. Blow-by has the effect of raising the atmospheric pressure in the crankcase, so more oil leaks out of the rear main bearing, and more gases escape through the breather pipe.

Ditto what they said - You might get away with just rings, but my original 29 had so much wear it needed to go .060 over on the bore even though the blow by never seemed excessive and it ran great... Measure the entire bore top to bottom and look for any belling out when you get in there, and good luck.

"Blow-by" is also a term used when the new fangled V-8 passed the old stodgy Model T on the highway. he-he.
