1 barrel air cleaner build

Guys, after looking for the available options to ditch my 2,5Kg leaking oil bath cleaner, I ended up deciding to build my own and try it out.
The aftermarket parts are either poor quality, restrictive, too "fast and furious" or just don't seem right. There are those mid 50's dry cleaners but not very available or too expensive for such part.
Anyway, here's the deal:
2 ~9" hubcaps (215mm)
A paper round air filter (mahle)
A piece of diam 60mm 1,5mm thick metal tube
A wingnut, a bolt, a washer
OE carb (Holley) to cleaner clamp.
A piece of wire mesh (still havent got it).
Some fabbin to do.
Here are the pics. Still haven't finished but will this coming week.
Intention is to paint it to match the valve cover.
Regards

looks like you are progressing nicely

I love it! How will the 60mm tube seal thru the hole in the bottom hubcap?
Painted to match the valve cover will be great, but the chrome hubcaps look good as-is.
Thumbs up!

Thanks dmsfrr. The tube will be tig welded to the base of the cleaner. The hubcap is thin metal so I cant do it properly with my arc welder.
Eventough I already tested a couple of friends and nobody ever thought those were hubcaps, I'd like to get away from that idea, so I'll paint that shiny black to match the rest of the engine bay. In addition, I think chrome shiny parts on my humble and tired six dont match. Makes it sound like a wannabe and I like it simple.
Regards

That sir, is good old fashioned hot rodding at its best. Use what you have, and make it work better than the original. Good on ya, Mate.

Thanks guys.
Here's an update.
I'll probably get it welded up today. Still cant do it myself nor use an angle srinder, hence the hacksaw.

Don't know what you're looking for, or how things work in Portugal. But over here, the best selection of wire mesh is farm stores. I did a similar one with fine mesh screen covered by some kind of chicken wire. Bug screen wire, and then a 1/4" mesh (10mm?). Looked period correct for my car.

Thanks miker.
I'm just looking for some kind of simple metal screen to protect the paper from bugs and such larger stuff that might get drawn.
There are some things available right where I live, but flashy or in alluminium, so not what I want. Later I'll check out other resources.
Regards

Thanks Ron.
Those are just some caps my father-in-law gave me at some point and where hanging on the wall. I needed two straight dishy parts and there they were.
