The original tools.

A screw type original jack.

Spare A&L condensor in case someone elses fails.

Spare tested known working coil.

Some bailing wire.

That should be enough to get a well restored car home if the failure does not need a tow.

I have a Coke Machine like this one (needs to be restored) and I want to make a trailer out of it.

A good preventative maintenance plan eliminates most of the supprises. Most of my breakdowns have been fore warned by things I have neglected to check up on. In addition to the small parts listed, a rear axle key and shim.....
Ask me how I know.

O.K. How do you know?

Case of beer and a screwdriver. If it gets more complicated than what a screwdiver will fix it is time to call someone in the roster to share the beer with while fixing the car. Rod

In my long distance tour car, a 1930 deluxe delivery, I carry all the tools and parts I've ever had to use on a tour. Cheep insurance.

Of course. the one part and/or tool you need is always still sitting on your workbench at home when you need it on a trip.

with all that stuff your car will be slower due to weight .........

On a long trip I would throw in an extra tire just because I'm using such old ones right now. Otherwise the only parts I feel might get me home and could be needed is a condenser, points, coil, and fan belt. I would carry a handful of combination wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and a couple clip leads.

If anything more is needed then the car probably wasn't ready for a trip to start with. Preventative maintenance is so much easier at home in the garage, than roadside repairs due to neglect.

Here is a good list from the Dallas Roster that was compiled by Ken Davis years ago. I carry a few more items. It not always about what you need, but what it takes to get someone else home. Water and gas can be precious commodities.

I throw in some extra fuses, test light and amp meter. Anything that can aid in electrical issues as I have encountered them in the past. I also like to take with me a multi tool as well. I've had my cars for only a couple of years so I tend to carry more items since my knowledge basis is not as robust. Also I carry the red and blue LED Andrews books.
