Was there ever any type of gasket material / anti squeek placed between the rear tire mount and the body?

Was there ever any type of gasket material / anti squeek placed between the rear tire mount and the body?

I too was told there was nothing installed between the carrier and the body, but after spending hours getting that panel smooth I could not bear to bolt the carrier on with nothing. I had some black leather left over from a Harley seat project and made a gasket out of it the exact same shape as the carrier. No on has noticed it, and I hopefully, have protected the surface of the panel.
