8BA oil pressure

Just pick up a nice 50 club coupe today but the motor has issues, lots of valve trains noise and low oil pressure. The last owner had replace the stock fuel pump with an electric one but did not plug the pump rod bushing. Question would there be much of an oil pressure loss with this bushing left open.

When you realize the very loose fit between the stock 8BA push rod and the bushing there will be no difference in oil pressure when the push rod is removed.

Thanks guys for the info, but I think it's surgery time removed intake manifold to adjust valves and found two intake lifter with less lift than the rest. Think I may have lost a couple of cam lobs.

It has a mechanical gauge on it and it was reading 10lbs at idle hot and 30 at a 1000 rpm, I thought this would be low. Still learning these motors. Marlon

Sounds fine for a well-used engine. But many mechanical gauges are inaccurate, too.

How did you measure the valve lift? or is really obvious?

There was enough difference from the two just by eye ball that if figured I might have a problem. My brother in law is bring over a dial gauge and were going to check to see what the difference is. The adjustment stud on all the lifters appear to be about the same height.

Ross F-1 going to try a second gauge just to double check. You mention that the pressure numbers sounded fine for a well used motor, issue number 2 supposedly rebuilt 8 years ago has between 5 and 6 thousand km. on it. Might have been rebuilt with a spray can. or with the cheapest parts that they could find. Got the car at a good price There is room for a good rebuild, or a top end rebuild if that's all that is required.

Removing the fuel pump rod will put a fine mist of oil all over the plave. iF YOUR USING AN ELECTRICK PUML JUST LEAVE THE PUSH ROD IN. wON'T HURT A THING

Yea, you're talking to one!! Drove the 40 Saturday to a cruise about an hour away, same old thing.... zero lbs. at hot idle, 40-45 at road speed. Still isn't making any bad noises. It will run for ever now that I have a fresh 52 8BA waiting in the corner, later Chuck S.

Some guys would sell there sister for that oil pressure >>>
