Stock Wheel and tire sizes?

What were the stock front wheel and tire sizes for a 48 f1 pickup? Also does anyone know what backspacing will work for a 15" wheel setup with bone stock front suspension and brakes? Going to be putting new rims and tires on and want something that will be a nice fit. Thanks. Luke

I am quite sure you can use early Ford pick up rims. 15 x 5 1/2 (total width of 6 1/2 in) with 5 1/2 inch bolt pattern. Back space is 4 inches. That is what I have on my 40 ford with a 4 inch dropped axle. I am not familiar with pickup tire sizes.

I believe the '48 F-1's had two available wheel sizes, a 16" and a 15". I run 15' Ford truck rims on my '51 F-1 and my '53 F-100 Panel Truck with no problems, both have stock suspensions.

Yes it would be for the 5 on 5 1/2 bolt spacing. Wonder if the back spacing changed at all with your dropped axle?

My '48 F-1 calls for 6:00x16 or 6:50x16. I have not seen a reference for 15" as stock in this year.

The dropped axle had no effect on the wheel backspacing. Wheel backspacing is a constant wheel measurement that does not change with the type of axle. However, the dropped axle does effect the amount of clearance between the fender and the tire since the dropped axle does raise the tire higher up into the fender when the car is resting on it's own suspension when on the ground.
