I need to speak with someone who knows the mods needed to install a 53 Merc
V8 into a 1935 sedan which has a 1939 transmission. My 39 engine has a big crack. I can call or you can reach me at 903-360-7116

I read through the responses in the thread attached to this inquiry, a lot of verbage that did not really answer the question.
Putting an 8BA/8CM engine into a '35-36 Ford is a pretty straight forward afternoon job, if you go about the job correctly, in a few words, don't try to "re-invent the wheel".
I have attached a couple of pix showing a 8BA engine in my friends '37 Ford, other than issues that might arise with the clutch and the choice of exhaust manifolds, I would suggest that you use the stock '35-36 manifolds to maintain clearance on the steering gears..
In years gone bye I have done several 8BA swaps into pre '40 Ford vehicles.
The one big problem is the 8BA engines are not drilled for the stabilizer rods, a bracket can be made to bolt to the bell housing that will allow the rods to be attached..

Maybe I'm wrong, but that sure looks like a pick-up truck. That's a whole different ball game when it comes to the radiator and clearance with that LATE fan arrangement in a CAR. DD

How about a picture of that bracket, Blucar? I'll be needin' that.
I'd like to defend all of the posters on my thread. My initial need was to verify the parts inventory necessary. I got that verification and some good clarification. I will agree with you though that toward the end of the thread there was some excess verbage. LOL! Thanks Barners for the input! Your lack of verbage, blucar, tends to understate the difficulties of this easy swap. I think Dick can benifit from the thread.

V8coopman... You are correct, the '37 Ford w/8BA engine is in fact a '37 pickup, however, the '37 Fords are generally very similar to the '35-36 Ford cars. The pre '41 pickups sit on a car type chassis, with slightly heavier springs.
Ya know, we are not talking rocket science here, we are talking back yard, shade tree, engineering..
As I recall there are some significant differences between the mechanical components in the '35-36 Fords, however I don't think they would effect the engine swap that much.

The huge difference is the fact that the radiator leans BACK much more on a car. That's why so many guys with 8BAs in '35 and '36s end-up running electric fans, 'cuz they can't figure-out how to get a decent fan arrangement between the late engine and extreme slant of the radiator. It CAN be done though with ingenuity. My point being...THAT fan arrangement you show on that pick-up truck picture will NOT fit on a '36 CAR. DD

The above statement: "My point being...THAT fan arrangement you show on that pick-up truck picture will NOT fit on a '36 CAR." is 100% correct.
