Fuel Line Length

I just purchased a new fuel line from Snyders for my late '31 (---indented firewall) Tudor. To me it appears to be too long but, with a bit of creative bending I could probably make it work without cutting it. Is there a specific profile that this line should follow?

does this help you??

Two questions. I can't read the projection distance beyond the thimble (9/32"?) and is it necessary to solder the brass thimble to the line? Brass to steel??? It still appears - although the line length is perfectly correct after minor adjustments - that the line is too long. Also, what is the outward "bow" dimension. Mine measures 5/16".

I don't have the drawing here to see if I can read the depth of the arc but it appears equal to the diameter of the line. The tubing protrusion through the ferrule is 3/32". 1/8" shouldn't hurt but much more than that and it will begin to restrict fuel flow.

The original line was seamed, leaving a small opening where gas could get between the ferrule and the tubing. For this reason they required soldering. Of course it also prevented the tube from being inserted too deeply through the ferrule and blocking fuel flow.

Thanks Marco. I was worried about having to solder that brass ferrule to a steel line! It appears that the connection on the Zenith carb is where a problem could arise since there isn't a stop in the carb to keep the line from penetrating too deep. I'm thinking that I'll put a mark on the line behind the nut to show proper penetration. It probably won't hurt to do the same for the valve on the firewall. As for length, I think that minor adjustments in the "sweep" will solve the problem.

Fuel line is replaced and I gave Prunella a 20 mile run just to make sure there's no leaks. I appreciate the help and, for the record, I did simply mark the line behind the nut to make sure I didn't push the line too far into the Zenith side bowl. The length of the line, as delivered by Snyder, seems to be just right after a bit of finagling.
