New Radiator Shell

I finally located an original 31 radiator shell for my coupe. My question is how should the top and bottom panels be painted. As you can tell by my avatar the car is red over black. I have seen where the bottom panel is black the top panel is the car color. I have also seen where they are both black. While it will never be a fine point car it is a drive that I am trying to keep as correct as I can.

the top panel is body color. the bottom was initially black, but after a few months production it was often body color.

Ummm Pat, I think this may cause a little debate. I think that the mindset would be that the true DeLuxe cars (400A, 68C, 180A, possibly the 190) could have been painted body color on some however the Coupes, Tudors, Roadsters, Fordors, etc. would have had the lower section painted Black lacquer coming from the production line.

oh I'm sure it will, as its one of the few areas regarding A production that is still undocumented. Wannanother area to study, Pluck?? I was paraphrasing the paint & finish guide, 2nd edition. Maybe that's been revised in the 3rd edition. My August '31 std S/W fordor does have black below and body color above on an original paint shell, consistent with Brent's statement..

Just glad I could stir things up. Thanks for the replies. My weekend project is now confirmed!
