cylinder head studs

I don't see a reason for using studs on a street engine. 17 bolts have alott of clamping force.

take the bolts to a good hardware store and match them there only bolts nothing special goodluk.

They should at least be grade 5 bolts and I'm not sure the bolts in big box hardware stores, that are coming from China and marked as grade 5, are actually grade 5 quality :(

Grade 5 would be strong enough, but a grade 8 would have a better quality thread. Make sure they don;t bottom out and have a diameter and a half or more engagement.

Using bolts is ok if you are assembling an engine and never going to take it apart again. However not a good idea if you think you are going to tinker with it or remove the heads occasionally. The re torquing on the threads runs the risk of stripping a thread as well as purchasing a bolt slightly too long for the blind holes in the block and having it bottom out before it actually provides the clamping power you are looking to achieve. These are just 3/8-16 x 3/8x 24 G8 studs and come in different lenghts available thru any auto parts store like NAPA that sell Dorman producs

I think they are 7/16". Thanks for the tip that they are available at a parts house. I have bolts but may try to find the studs.

The 60 HP engine uses 3/8 studs and Dicks comments should be well taken. Bolts/studs must be the right length and installed correctly. Although unnecessary on cast iron I still like to use a hardened flat washer and over torquing is to be avoided.
