Early f-1 differences.

I stand corrected on the timing of the change in back windows. Effective in 51 it is!

Phillips head fasteners were also used on the dashboard defroster trays.
 
Not to hijack your thread,which I like to know all the differnces also.I know the grille color changed to silver in 50,does anyone have a paint code or any info on the correct color.I have for the most part a unmolested truck but someone did some spray bomb touch up with a totally wrong color,and I would like to make it correct.

Ross, you may be right. Thinking back, I also had a 51 F-4 for parts and it did not have the ribs.

Joe - the grille color change actually happened in 49. My avatar has the paint matched from the code listing CA Victoria provided. I used a single stage from Acme. Do yours right and we'll be twins!

I am talking about the ribs on the cab. Now I need to go look at the cab on my 49 F-2, I don't remember if it has the ribs or not. My 49 F-7 definitely does not have the ribs. Maybe it is a small vs big truck thing...
 
My '49 F4 has the ribs. I've seen the smooth back cab, but I don't remember what year or size truck it was on.

Looking in my 44-51 Body parts catalog, which is a 1951 edition, they show no difference in the rear panels, other than conventional cab or cab overs each using a different panel. They show 51 as the change to the big window. I think it depended on the supplier and where they were built. Gertenslager (spelling) was the supplier then and now for 99% of Ford sheet metal parts. I'll bet somewhere in the archives there's a change order to add or remove the ribs.
