1933 Ford VIN Help

Hi guys. I just purchased a 33 Ford that had been tucked away for many years. It was an early hotrod and maintains the original frame. I find the VIN to be a little different than others that I have seen. It is DRF9XXXX. Is this odd or is there something I am missing in the Old Ford books I have? Many thanks.

Is that the number stamped on the frame? I've got a '33, although a Canadian model and I've never seen anything like that number myself. Could it be a re-stamp done to get registration maybe? Bill

Assuming that it was originally a V8 chassis, that VIN has neither a normal U.S. or Canadian letter prefix and the five digit number is too long to be Canadian and too short to be U.S.

Yes, probably was re-stamped by some state motor vehicle agency. Each state has their own procedure.

DRF numbers were used in California, before, the riveted on blue tags, that the Highway Patrol put on. I 've seen quite a few older Harleys, that for one reason, or another had an DRF number stamped in the cases, an on the frame. I think DRF stands for dead registration file.
