I would like to buy, borrow or rent these tools. Any leads on this would be appreciated.
Plus, if grind them down it defeats the designed purpose of the press fit.I am building a 40 front end and someone surely has some help with my question? I don't want to grind and drive the studs in as I have done in the past. I made a brass tool years ago that you can drive the studs in after they are ground down some, but I would prefer to press them in.
Get the right size reamer to clean the hole for a press fit. G.M.
Either that or convert to Delrin bushings.
You will never have to replace them again.
Jerry: Why not make a press to push the NOS style bushing in. Do you have a machine shop with welding capability, in your area?
36coupe: The rodders have been using a plastic like bushing. I believe Bob Drake has them in his on line catalog but you have to use the proper steel shackle bolt and end plate combination for the plastic (Delrin???) bushings. It's best to buy a complete kit for your spring eye size for the first installation.
Ford designed an interference fit of .003" - .005". That is a lot of interference and does in fact make this task a bit troublesome. You can't just press them in a hole that is slightly undersize the thin metal sides buckle. You need to ream the hole a few thousandths smaller then the OD of the bushing. G.M.
