How critical are the cone shaped adjusting wedges? I'm starting to rebuild my Brakes They seem to operate smoothly but I see a few nicks. Can I just file and buff and reuse.

Yes, the main intent is for the slots (detent) to be there to hold the adjustment on the brake adjusting shafts.

Thanks Brent. I had a can full and they all seem to have the same wear pattern.
