Barn find--- 40 pickup

They are still out there. I just finished a 37 chevy coupe and decided to look for a barn find 40 ford pickup. For over a year and a half all i could find was pieces. I wanted a whole truck so i kept looking. Last year i saw an ad that had no pictures only a small description. It said 1940 ford pickup in boxes $5000.00. I called my son and he and i drove over seven hours in a snow storm in pa. Just above harrisburg. There it was a 40 1/2 ton in boxes stored since 1966. I later found out the flathead that came with it was a 1947 but it had been overhauled in 1966 and i found the paperwork in one of the boxes indicating what was done (complete overhaul) for $197.67. That was regular for 1966. Some of the parts are missing but most of it is there. At 73 i am still having fun. I now have a rolling chassis, hood and rear fenders done. As soon as the weather brakes i will start again, since i build my cars outside the weather is important. Hope this was a nice read. Thanks rich

Frog,
Fantastic find and story! In my honest opinion the `40-41 were some of the best looking pickups. Show us some pics.

Pics will come after the cover is removed and snow is gone. It is outside because my finished 37 chevy is in the only garage i have. Rich

Good find

I hope you have less snow than us, about 6ft snow banks and below zero temps, Sure hope it gone by July (lol).

the cover will fit over the chevy won't it? Swap em over, it's the right thing to do.
Martin.

it is the old chevy cover but after over $50,000.00 you just can't. Do it. I am laughing so hard while i am typing this. That was a good one. Thanks rich

Yeah, we're Ford guys here, it makes perfect sense to us.

Would like to see some pics when you are ready.

Mart.

I have a Chevy sitting in my garage too, sleeping side by side with the `35 Ford. The `51 F1 is in my son's building. The ones we drive everyday is sitting outside in this horrible weather, but they can be replaced. We just had a blizzard too!

I cant wait to see it. I found a 43 in parts last winter and now it is going back together,. It is a commercial truck that was a tanker for navy base. Good luck with your rebuild. We are getting another foot of snow today. Thank god for heated garages.
