Thinking about buying & installing 6 volt power window regulators in my 400A. Anyone know if they're available and difficulty of installing?

Post worked. Specialty Power Windows has what I was looking for.

I think that on most DC motors, running a 12 volt motor on 6 volt will work fine, it just goes at half the speed. And the 6 volt motors can also operate on 12 volt but at twice the speed and maybe half the life! Like operating a 6 volt Model A starter on 12 volts.

Although my technical / electrical training is limited, yes I believe the 12 volt battery will start a car with a 6 volt starter but I do not believe a 6 volt battery will start a car with a 12 volt starter. I have tried to jump start the latter case and it did not work. Wayne

The starter motor was probably a poor example to use but there should be no problem running a window regulator motor, it will just go slow. The original poster should just try it.
I am not near my shop right now or I would try it.

True, but would 6 volts on a 12 volt motor be 'half the power' moving the window up too?

If I were you, i'd think real hard before you start drilling holes to install something like that. Remember you also need to drill holes in the door jam area too for the power lead.
But if you are dead set on doing it, i'd just pull a set out of a modern car/truck at the junk yard. There are some that will work with very little effort. Lots cheaper too.

For sure I agree with all you have said Vin-Tin. And if it is that much trouble it sure as heck was not meant to be. Wayne

First a disclaimer. I think it is a terrible idea and definitely would not consider it for my Model A. Every change takes you away from the charm of the original car. I am not a purist, I favor changes that enhance safety and accept changes that make a car easier to drive. Power windows, not even on the list. Having said that there is a thread on HAMB that you might follow and see where it leads as time passes. Click "watch thread" at the top of the page and also select "receive email notifications" about changes. The thread you might want to follow is: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/power-windows-in-a.963767/.
