Showing / Posting Photographs

I realize that, I'm not too bright at times and one of my issues is that, I can not ever transfer a photo from my down loaded pictures on my computer, while I am corresponding with anyone from the "Ford Barn" . From what I hear - I have to shrink my photos down, so I don't get an error or what ever they call it. I have observed that some of the people transfer large photos in their threads. I need a guided tour.

The way I do it is email the photo you want to post to yourself which makes it smaller, then save it on your comp. where it says Go Advanced click it,then Manage Attachments, go to Browse pick the photo and then hit Upload and then Post Reply.

Dave,

There a many tools you can use to resize your photos (I believe Ford Barn only will accept 600pixel) I like GIMP (I've used it on my Linux and Apple Mac's). Here's a link to a Windows version:

http://download.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/windows/

if you post a photo off a place like photbucket u can post a LARGE picture. if you ever delete it off photobucket it will go away on the barn also.
posting one through the barn has to be smaller

Do not open your picture, right click on the file, run your pointer down the list until you get to -open with - then click on paint.
After your picture opens in paint, look at the top until you find -resize- and click on it. take the 100 out of the box and put in a smaller number, and click ok and the picture will get smaller. Everyone will need to use a different number depending on what kind of camera that you have, I use 20 for my camera. It is trial and error until you find the correct number, but as long as you use the same camera the number will stay the same for all the pictures. After you get the size that you want click save as, and save it to a jpg or jpeg. You will now have a small picture that you can upload to the board.

I like the huge photos that some people post here, but can't be bothered maintaining a photobucket account and storing my photos there.

I do exactly the same as 1930coupe. You can always see the size of any photo that you've saved by this method by looking at its details in Windows Explorer. I've played around with various sizes and have found that if the file you are trying to upload is around 500 KB, the FordBarn upload process will have no problems and you will end up with a photo that has a useful size when viewed on a thread. For my 12MP camera, 35% seems to be enough size reduction to keep FordBarn happy and also produce a big enough photo to look at in a thread.

As an example, the one I attached in Post 54 of the following thread was 534 KB after going through the resize process described by 1930coupe. Ford Barn has shrunk it further during the upload process, to around 100KB.

If you try to upload anything too much bigger than this, Ford Barn refuses to accept it.

Here is what I did , I went to the upper right corner of the page and left clicked on the minus sign , When I did this it brought this spot to the bottom of the page with the title word showing at the bottom . I went back to your profile and right clicked on your picture I right clicked on your picture and a menu popped up. I left clicked on copy . I scrolled to the bottom of the page and left clicked on the word showing and it brought back the spot here that I wanted to post your picture. I then right clicked on the spot that I wanted the picture to post. When I did this the menu popped back up and I left clicked on the word paste and the picture showed up. I then went to post quick reply and left clicked and the picture posted. If you have pictures stored at photo bucket , You just go to photo bucket, select the photo that you want to post and follow this procedure and your picture will post. It doesn't matter if you want to post on a PM or on the board . Hope this helps .

Not sure what you mean. I copied the photo and posted it , just like it was . I did it as a test to see if there was some reason that he couldn't post his pictures. After doing so I reported back , how I did it so maybe he could do the same .

I used to resize pics thru other programs.

Now I just open any pic and use windows snipping tool and lasso and save it.

here is quicky snip in a large not have to click twice to open style.. 65 kb in size.

Thanks to you all....PurdySwoft - I got lost in the clicks. No, just kidding. I will keep trying and probably learn by doing. I will practice, maybe tomorrow if I get some extra time.

We, the wife and I took the "A" out today and put on 75 or so miles. Nice ride from south Spartanburg, up to the north east side of I-85 back around to 221 and home. Tomorrow, we will take the Harley's out and give them a test ride. No direction, just bring the GPS and head out.

Sorry about all the clicks. That is just how I learned to post pictures . It took a while for me to learn . I posted a larger pic of your coupe. I think that is what you were originally asking about . To post a larger picture you first have to left click, the picture jumps up there bigger and then you just follow the procedure that I posted above. Sorry about adding another click. Not tring to be a smartazz. That is just what works for me. If you have your pictures stored at Photobucket or Blue Melon, you don't have to go through all of the trouble that most do , resizing. Those picture sites take care of the sizing so that the pics will post . You can store your pictures there free . . I don't know much about computors. My wifes neice showed me how to post pics. I couldn't remember all of the clicks at first. I wrote it all down and kept it by the computor untill I learned it by heart . As you see, I can post them small or large. If you can't get it to work, just post them on your profile like you did your coupe picture and I will post them for you . Purdy.

Resize the image first to say a size of 200x200 pixels. The site will then expand the image when the user selects it.

Actually, I have the opposite question. I have never figured out how people post these little thumbnail sizes. Every pic I post ends up being full size. How does it become a thumbnail attachment?

I start by clicking on "go advanced" at the bottom. I can then click on the paperclip, and click on "browse" to search "my pictures" or "my documents" on my computor for the picture(s) I want. Once done attaching the picture links, I click on "upload", which might take my computor a few minutes if it's a few pictures.

BTW, I use a 4.1 megapixel Olympus set on medium jpeg, and this is a good size to download without having to resize the pictures.

Must be your computor . Thats all that I can figure . They show up here on mine. Don't know . My first small pic shows up here in post # 10 where Gary WA quoted my post. Maybe some can see it and others can't. I guess it wasn't worth the effort .

I believe his comment "was it snowing?"was an indication that there was nothing there. It is always worth the effort but, you must accept there is sometimes problems.
