39 gear shift knob

What should a 39 deluxe gear shift knob look like? Is it yellow plastic like the dash knobs or is it painted zephyr beige like the other interior items?

Joe,

I have absolutely no idea what it should look like (I am into other years) but if you are asking questions at that level of detail you might consider getting a copy of the restoration guidelines from the Early Ford V8 Club (earlyfordv8.org).

Good question, I also would like to know, my 1939 Standard has a small round knob that is about 1" in diameter. This knob was on this car when I bought it from the original owner and I always assumed it was original? It is a dirty ivory in color. I have the Early Ford book on the '38-'39 and from all that I can read, it is not the original knob but should be a larger sorta flat knob in the yellow plastic like the dash knobs?

It is too far for me to come on over, and probably do not want me there anyway. But can you just describe the color. Thanks.

I ran into the same question. I purchased a new knob that was supposedly the correct one for it (a large sorta flat knob0 but the one that came on it is a small round black ball hardly over 1 inch in diameter. It definitely looks old enough to be original
