another one bites the dust

I drove 66 close to twenty times, St Louis to L.A. Does any one have pictures of the Whiting Brothers Gas stations. You get the coupon and get a discount of two cents a gallon. Helped going cross country.

One more...a former Flying A station, now a sandwich shop in Modesto, CA known as the Brighter Side (best sandwiches in the Central Valley, by the way).

Here is one that is preserved. It is on the main street of Port Huron Michigan. Sorry about the distraction on the running Board. There are nice pumps in front but out of picture range. Byron.

Will have to check the location, never heard or seen of it.

Edit:

Just checked , can't ever recall a filing station there.

I've eaten there many times. It clearly was a gas station at one time. The owners claim it was a Flying A station.

They serve the best Chicken Salad Sandwich I've ever had. Next time you're in Modesto, you should stop by.

I live nearby this location and have seen this station. It looks like it might be privately owned and serves as storage and hang out space for the owner. I'll have to stop in to check this out, then report back. It can be expensive to own real estate that does not produce income, just like it can be expensive to own a vehicle that isn't purposed for daily transportation. Also, a vehicle can be moved out of the way of progress, real estate improvements cannot be feasibly moved.

The old center of the City of ******* is being replaced with nearby big box "square" architecture a couple miles away, closer to an intersection with an interstate. This may save the old ******* that we see today.
