Are 1928-29 Brigg's fordor sedan doors different from 1930-31 Brigg's fordor sedan doors? If so, what are the difference? Not talking about Slants. Thanks!
I don't believe there is a difference in the measurements just the belt lines. The 28/29 door handles are a little 'flatter' at the belt line where the 30/31 has more of an arch to them.
I think that the 28-29 Briggs straight windshield fordor and town sedan doors will interchange with 30-31 straight windshield fordor and town sedans. There is no difference in the outside door handle connection. There is a difference in the tudor handles because they mount on a flat belt moulding and are not scroll type handles .
Purdy, I thought the part of the handle where it attaches to the door skin is different between 29 and 30? I always thought there was more of a curve to the belt line on 30's? I know the handle itself is a little smaller on the 28/29 than the 30/31's.
I know the 28-9 Tudor has the flat beltline, while the 30-1 Tudor has the curved beltline, but I also thought the Fordors were the same. Steve from Bert's, or Brent or Marco will know for sure.
They are all the same size and shape. However I believe that at least the 60-A leather back (1928) used wooden inner panels which support the 'door lock and remote assembly' as well as the window regulator assembly. We could use some more input on this but the common stamped steel type will not fit without modifying the door wood in that area.
Also, all leather back rear doors are designed for check straps instead of the more common steel arm similar to the front doors. The pic below is a '29 door (same as all later doors) and at the far right you can see where the steel check arm bracket will mount. Sorry for the LARGE size! I don't have a pic of the leather back version.
I considered that a possibility as I heard the very early Cabriolets had the wood. How early is your Town Sedan? Does it have the headlamps with the small ('28 size) ferules?
Marco;
The rust hulk is gone. I don't recall which ferules it had. I never had the body off to find the true date, the engine number was in Oct 29 as I recall. If the information is correct in one of the book, they didn't start production of the Town Sedan till June of 29. I still have one of the wood pieces that held the handles. Looks the same as Randy's photo.
When I got my '30 Fordor, three of the doors were badly rusted. Within a year, I had accumulated about 8 various Briggs Fordor doors-for sure, a number of them were off a '28-'29, but they all fit perfectly (I only used the ones in the best condition) , and the lines all match up properly,too. I can't say much about the interior details yet,though-most of the doors internals had been stripped, and I haven't transferred over the internals from the original doors yet.
Here are two pictures, one of a 28-29 Briggs and one of a 30-31. I could never see any difference. I also don't think there's any difference between the 28-29 and 30-31 Murray.
